The Great Smoky Mountains have a way of humbling you as a photographer. Straddling the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, this ancient, fog-draped range is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, and it shows in nearly every direction you point a camera. This gallery is a collection of images including mist-filled valleys at sunrise, quiet mountain streams, historic structures tucked into the landscape, and the wildlife that calls these mountains home. What struck me most wasn't any single scene, but how much the light and atmosphere here shift by the hour, rewarding patience more than almost anywhere else I've photographed.
